Pittsfield, Massachusetts: Outdoor Movie Series to Revitalize City Parks in Pittsfield, Massachusetts
The city of Pittsfield, Massachusetts has been working towards revitalizing city parks and creating spaces that are beautiful and functional for community uses. That's why they started an outdoor movie series on The Common. They call it a "low-cost, high-impact" event, as the whole community gathers to see a family-friendly movie under the stars. Watching DVDs at home or first-run movies in the movie theater is fun, but there's something undeniably attractive about gathering with neighbors and friends to watch an outdoor film in a community park. Plus- the Summer Outdoor Movie Series is free!
The outdoor cinema series officially kicked off last Friday with a screening of "Over the hedge". Each Friday they will screen another favorite film, including "Spiderwick Chronicles", "Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D" (glasses provided; first-come, first-serve), and "Water Horse: Legend of the Deep". In previous years about 150 people usually show up to each screening, with room to grow. Bring blankets and a picnic, and the Lions Club will be selling popcorn and soda.
