Outdoor Movies to Benefit Colorado Tornado Victims
Downtown Castle Rock's Outdoor Movie Series kicks off with a Starlight Summer Movie to benefit the victims of the recent tornadoes in Weld County.
The Downtown Merchants Association of Castle Rock (CRMA) is teaming with the Mile High Chapter of the Red Cross to collect monetary donations for the tornado victims and other victims of Colorado disasters. All money collected will remain in the State of Colorado.
CRMA is also partnering with the Douglas County Task Force to collect non-perishable food to benefit local residents.
The open air movie will be screened on a large inflatable movie screen, and is scheduled for June 7 begins with live music at 6:30 p.m. by local rock & roll favorite "Hot Flash Band." There will also be great kid's activities including an inflatable slide, a balloon artist, face painting and street performers.
Food and drinks, including beer and wine, will be available for purchase. At approximately 8:30 p.m., the all-star animated comedy adventure Shrek III, featuring Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy, will start.
The fund-raising component was the idea of Event Coordinator, Terri Goudy.
"The event will, of course, be free but we are encouraging everyone to bring cash or checks made payable to The Red Cross."
In addition, volunteers from the Douglas County Food Bank will be on hand to collect non-perishable food (not expired), pet food and laundry detergent.
"Having such a tragedy affect so many so close to home reminds us of how fortunate we are and how important it is to support our neighbors in need."
Goudy hopes that everyone will bring their family, friends and favorite outdoor chairs for this family- friendly evening of outdoor entertainment which also provides an opportunity to give back to our fellow Coloradans.
The Starlight Summer Movie Series is one of many free events sponsored by CRMA. The other two open air movies scheduled for this summer are the rollicking comedy musical Hairspray on July 12, and the timeless 1971 classic family film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory on Sept. 6.
The CRMA is a stand-alone, non-profit association dedicated to downtown member businesses and the downtown business community.
