Missoula, Montana: Local Neighborhood Revitalized Due to Outdoor Movies in Missoula, Montana

. Missoula Outdoor Cinema is a celebration of community and film--under the stars. Outdoor movies are projected outside on a huge 12' X 25' movie screen. Neighbors "walk in" to the playfield at the Headstart school (the old Whittier School) on the corner of Worden and Philips Aves. on Missoula's historic Northside. As the sun goes down, the smell of fresh popcorn fills the air. Missoula Outdoor Cinema showcases classic films, shorts, animation, and local films. The MOC is a donation-only event. All profits benefit the local neighborhood revitalization efforts of the North-Missoula Community Development Corporation--projects like Project Playground, Whittier Court, The Moon-Randolph Homestead, the new Food Coop and More! MOC began in the summer of 2002 with a summer weekend of films. About 500 people came out to see Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Raiders of the Lost Ark. Despite fierce wind gusts throughout the day of each show, just around showtime the winds died down and the skies cleared. 2003 marked MOC's first full season. About 2000 people attended the outdoor movie screenings of Star Wars and Young Frankenstein. Only one show, in August, was cancelled due to smoke. Still people came and hung out in the park on a smoky Missoula night. This summer will continue the tradition of movies in the park. Please join us and help make it the best season ever!
