Manurewa, Australia: Outdoor Movies Plus Balloon Hats Equal Setting New Record

Outdoor Movies Plus Balloon Hats Equal Setting New Record
Manukau residents will have the chance to wear a unique kind of hat while enjoying the outdoors this weekend. The city council needs at least 5000 people to set the record for the largest number of people wearing balloon hats at one time.

It's also aiming to build a hat taller than 3.2 metres to beat the record of highest balloon hat. At last year's Botanic Garden Festival Manukau managed to achieve the Australasian record but this year wants to take it up a notch.

Balloonologist "Balloon HQ" will be at the festival making free hats for anyone who wants to be part of the special occasion. Keen record-breakers need to be at the gardens from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday.

The festival will also have free outdoor movies tomorrow Ice Age at 3.30pm and Night at the Museum 2 at 5.45pm. Council events manager Barbara Cox says the open-air cinema is "a great way for the family to enjoy a perfect summer's evening".

Other activities will include kite making, gumboot throwing, a gardeners' market and making family sculptures. The festival is on at the Auckland Botanic Gardens in Manurewa on February 13 and 14. Free carparking will be available at the Everglade Drive entrance.
