Enjoy 19 bohemian summer nights with outdoor movie screenings of the best of independent Australian and international cinema, local shorts, WA Screen Awards finalists, Rock Docs and Perth's best live bands and DJ's, plus the big MovieExtra Tropfest screening at this film festival. The 7th Fremantle Outdoor Film Festival runs from Friday January 30 to Saturday February 28 at the Bohemia Outdoor Cinema in Princess May Park, 92 Adelaide St, Fremantle. Outdoor movies under the stars make a perfect setting for a bohemian summer night.
Each Wednesday night a showing of all the finalist films for the upcoming 22nd WA Screen Awards in March 2009 will hit the outdoor screen. Entry to WASA Wednesday is by donation. Every Thursday night is Rock Docs, presented by FTI, RTRfm and Fat Yak, bringing together a great line-up of local bands each week followed by the best in rock music documentary films including Patti Smith: Dream of Life (5 Feb), Dig (12 Feb), Rize (19 Feb), and Gimme Shelter (26 Feb).
Gates open at 6.30pm, bands start from 7pm and the outdoor movie starts at 9.30pm. Entry to the 18+ Rock Docs events is $20 and is supported by WAM, Rockus and Cut & Paste.
On Friday nights, see some of Australia's best recent independent films including Rock N Roll Nerd (30 Jan), Men's Group (6 Feb), the WA premiere of Acolytes (13 Feb), Bitter and Twisted (20 Feb) and FTI'' Making Movies Roadshow 2009 regional workshop program.
On Saturdays, check out a range of award winning World Movies, in partnership with several community groups, which includes Kabadayi For Love and Honour from Turkey (31 Jan), Caramel from Lebanon (7 Feb), Welcome to the Sticks from France (14 Feb), King Corn from the USA (21 Feb) and the Italian comedy Her Whole Life Ahead (28 Feb).
Friday and Saturday nights will also screen the best of WA's recent short films by local Perth filmmakers before the feature films.
On Sunday 22 February, FTI presents the popular Perth screening of Movie Extra TROPFEST, the world's largest short film festival, featuring the top 16 short films selected as part of this annual film competition. An extra bonus in 2009 will be a special screening of The Best of the West, featuring all the West Australian Tropfest entries, in the Port Cinema next door on Adelaide St from 4pm-6pm.
